"She teaches general surgery at the University of Bologna. She conducted several postgraduate and undergraduate surgery courses (4th year and 5th year of the degree course). She has an active role in the residency training program. She taught general surgery to general surgery, thoracic surgery, and radiotherapy residents, as well as neurophysiology technicians and obstetricians. She is a tutor for general surgery residents. She was a consultant surgeon for hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery at Perrino Hospital in Brindisi, where she has performed a large number of HBP operations. Professor John Horowitz received his medical studies in Adelaide before going on to the University of Melbourne for his clinical and research training in cardiology and clinical pharmacology. He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard University, Boston, from 1980 to 1982. He was appointed Professor of Cardiology at Adelaide University and Director of Cardiology at Adelaide's Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 1988. His main areas of interest in cardiovascular disease, including myocardial ischemia, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, aortic valve stenosis, and takotsubo syndrome, include their pathogenesis and prospective treatments. His particular pharmacological/therapeutic interests are the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine and the heart metabolic regulator perhexiline's potential use.

Dr. Slakey is a professor of surgery and a clinical professor of urology and pediatrics. He was the director of the Tulane Center for Abdominal Transplantation from 1998 until 2006, when he became chair of the Tulane Department of Surgery. His Masters in Public Health had a focus on the epidemiology of infectious diseases and healthcare administration.
