John Horowitz(Biography)
Professor John Horowitz received his medical studies in Adelaide before going on to the University of Melbourne for his clinical and research training in cardiology and clinical pharmacology. He worked as a postdoctoral research fellow at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard University, Boston, from 1980 to 1982. He was appointed Professor of Cardiology at Adelaide University and Director of Cardiology at Adelaide's Queen Elizabeth Hospital in 1988. His main areas of interest in cardiovascular disease, including myocardial ischemia, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, aortic valve stenosis, and takotsubo syndrome, include their pathogenesis and prospective treatments. His particular pharmacological/therapeutic interests are the antioxidant N-acetylcysteine and the heart metabolic regulator perhexiline's potential use.
